About the project "Language as a window to the World"

Project "Language as a window to the World" is co-financed from the budget of the Lubuskie Voivodeship as a part of the Lubuskie Youth Initiative - Citizens' Initiative Budget. The competition for the award of micro-grants up to PLN 5,000 was announced on June 12, 2017 by the operator - the Association of Lubuskie Non-Governmental Organizations in Zielona Góra. As a result of the competition, on July 7 this year, a subsidy of five thousand zlotys was awarded to the project.

Contractors of the project are Topolnicka Elvira, Dagmara Grad and Krzysztof Dec. The project's supervisor is Lubuski Center for Continuing Education "Civilitas". Thanks to this initiative, an extensive website is created to serve foreigners who want to learn Polish, establish and develop contacts in the local community. As part of the project, a competition for knowledge about Poland for foreigners residing in the Lubuskie Voivodeship was announced. The prize in the competition is free admission to the Polish language course for foreigners at the advanced level. More information about the competition can be found in the CONTEST tab.

Assumed goals and their implementation

The main goal of the action is to create a stable, multilingual source of information about Polish for foreigners, didactic materials for self-education, and training opportunities in teaching Polish as a foreign language at the University of Zielona Góra. The action is to support and integrate the already strongly assimilated group of foreigners who constitute a social base for newly arriving immigrants. The materials developed by foreigners are to disseminate knowledge about Poland, culture, and language. The project leader is a Ph.D. student at the Institute of Polish Philology, Elwira Topolnicka. The competition committee includes employees of the Institute of Polish Philology of the University of Zielona Góra: dr Monika Kaczor, dr Magdalena Jurewicz-Nowak, dr Iwona Pałucka-Czerniak. The teacher of the Polish language course for foreigners is Dr. Iwona Pałucka-Czerniak.

Cele szczegółowe

1) building and launching a website www.polski.wh.zgora.pl, addressed mainly to young foreigners residing in the Lubuskie Voivodeship, to help them learn Polish; information should be translated at least into English and Russian, and due to the growing number of Ukrainian recipients, also into Ukrainian.

2) conducting a knowledge competition about Poland - 16 people took part in the competition, 14 of them then took part in a language course at the B1 / B2 level, these students came from Ukraine, Belarus, and Thailand.

3) creating a group to support activities for the dissemination of knowledge about the Polish language and Polish culture in foreign communities and developing, together with the audience, the first materials related to specialized lexis.

 

The promotion of the idea of learning Polish as a foreign language and dissemination of information about the project was carried out by the website: www.polski.wh.zgora.pl, information was in Radio West and Radio INDEX, Facebook pages (Civilitas, Institute of Polish Philology).

The course is supported by the Institute of Polish Philology at the University of Zielona Góra.

The website's creators are Elwira Topolnicka, Dagmara Grad and Krzysztof Dec.

The project's supervisor is the "Civilitas" Zielona Góra Educational Association.

The project is co-financed from the funds of the Lubuskie Voivodeship.
